Okay, this is the part of the post where I have to ask you to politely take off your rose-colored glasses so you can see the truth about starting a blog.

Can you make a lot of money from blogging? – Yes
Can you make money while you sleep from blogging? – Yes
Is starting a blog all you need to do to make money? – No

There are so many reasons why most blogs fail, but I believe one of the key reasons is because people get into the blogging business and don’t really realize how much work actually goes into it. (I know I didn’t at first).

I totally understand why this is. You can hardly scroll through a search on blogging without coming across the message, “start your blog today” or “make money while you sleep!”

This misleading marketing gives the impression that starting a blog equals money.

The truth is, starting a blog is just the first step in building a profitable online business.

You can’t just buy a blog, set-it-up, write a few blog posts, and then expect visitors to just stop by.

You need a strong business plan behind your message, and an effective marketing strategy to promote the products you’re trying to sell, in order to drive visitors (potential customers) to your site.

Without one, you’re setting yourself up not for financial freedom, but for financial failure.

My Honest Review

To really get the most from my review, I have to give you a little context around where I was just a year ago in my life, and why I would even consider purchasing a blog course in the first place.

I used to be general manager working for a major contract service provider. I had spent the last 15 years building my dream career, only to realize once I got there, it was a complete nightmare.

Worst of all, I felt like I had no way out.

I’d always thought about possibly starting a career in writing, but I didn’t know where to start. And honestly, after spending so many years in a disappointing career, I was too afraid to take a chance on myself. I didn’t want to invest in my dream and risk the possibility that it not work out.

The first time I got the idea to start a blog, was after I stumbled across a video of some guy giving a tutorial on how to start a blog. (That guy was Alex Nerney, one of the course creators.)

Before this point, I had never ever thought about starting a blog, (honestly, I’m still not sure how the post popped up in my search results). And even further from that, I had no idea you could seriously make money as a writer.

I can’t tell you exactly what compelled me to buy a blog after watching some guy give video on it, but if I had to put a feeling to the moment, I think it was because it was the first time I saw a way out.

A way out of my corporate nightmare – out of the long hours, endless meetings, demoralizing office politics – and into a life I love.

It’s so hard to want to invest in ourselves and in our dreams. We don’t want to take a chance and end up on the losing side of effort. But the truth is, the only way you’ll end up where you don’t want to be is if you don’t try.

Now my road to living the life I wanted through blogging was anything but easy. I still had to earn my ‘blogging stripes’ just like everyone else, but everything I put into this course I got out of it, and more.
